Engineer Abdullahi A. Sule was born on December 26, 1959, in Gudi Station, Akwanga-West Development Area of Nasarawa state. He was raised in this small but multi-ethnic and multi-religious village. His father, Alhaji Sule, is the current traditional ruler (Hakimi) of the area, while his grandfather, Abdullahi Angulu, was the first traditional ruler of Gudi Station. His mother, Hajiya Hauwa, was raised in Bokono and Keffi, also in Nasarawa state.
Education
He began his education at the Roman Catholic Mission (RCM) Primary School, Gudi Station, in 1968. Upon completion, he passed the entrance examination into Zang Secondary Commercial School, Bukuru, in 1974. In 1977, he graduated from Bukuru and proceeded to Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi, and later to Indiana State University, Terre Haute, Indiana, USA, towards the end of 1980. Through determination, extra classes, hard work, and divine support, he utilised a four-year scholarship to earn both a BSc (1983) and MSc (1984) in Mechanical Technology and Industrial Technology, respectively, from Indiana State University.
Career
His work experience began in 1980 when he was offered employment by the Plateau Electricity Corporation, Jos, even before his graduation in May 1980. After graduating from Government Technical College, Bukuru, he worked with the corporation for about three months before proceeding to Plateau State Polytechnic in September 1980. Upon his return from the United States, he completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) with the Plateau Utilities Board, Jos. In 1985, he joined the Jos Steel Rolling Company Ltd as a Production Engineer. In recognition of his performance and hard work, he was promoted from GL 9 to GL 12 in 1987. He left the company in 1989 as a Principal Production Engineer and returned to the United States.
In the year 2000, he returned to Nigeria and, along with some associates, established a company named Sadiq Petroleum Nigeria Limited in Lagos, where he served as the pioneer Managing Director/CEO. By the time he resigned in July 2006, the company had achieved a positive balance sheet of N5 billion.
After resigning from AP, he joined Tetra International, an American multinational oil service company, in July 2006 as Director of Business Development and Country Manager. He left the company in December 2006 to enter partisan politics.
Politics
He won the gubernatorial primaries for Nasarawa state of the All Progressives Congress on 1 October 2018.
On 10 March 2019, he was declared governor-elect of Nasarawa State at the 2019 Nasarawa gubernatorial election held on 9 March 2019. He was sworn in on 29 May 2019. After his first four-year tenure as a governor, he was re-elected in 2023. He is currently serving his second tenure as the executive governor of Nasarawa state.
