Quotes attributed to Mikel

In a Facebook post, the 2008 Olympic silver medallist allegedly said Kroos was more recognised because he played for Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The statement wrote that some of the players who signed for the 15-time European champions are better players in their position. He said:

He further said that trophies do not translate to being a better player.

"Toni Kroos is just an average midfielder. To be honest, I was a better player than him. The only difference is I didn’t play for Real Madrid.

"I think we need to change the mindset that if you play for Real Madrid, you’re automatically seen as better than others."

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles legend has branded the statement as Fake News.

On his Instagram story, the former Stoke City star debunked the claim.

Former England international replies Mikel Obi

Manchester City legend Joey Barton said Toni Kroos remains one of the most outstanding midfielders in the world.

In a post on X, the Newcastle legend said John Mikel Obi is not among his top 30 centre midfielders in the Premier League.

"John Mikel Obi, I don't think he is better than Kross. He is just okay and not a great player to me.
"Defensive midfielders put out fire. He did not have an unbelievable passing range. He's is not better than Kroos by any stretch of the imagination.
"He is not in my top 30 Premier League Centre midfielders but you know they are going to uncheck these opinions, especially if.
"I mean, Toni Kroos pull the World Cup out on them in a couple of European Cup and just saying knock yourself down a couple of gears."

Toni Kroos remains one of the greatest midfielders to have come out of Germany.

The 35-year-old has won the Bundesliga three times with Bayern Munich, as well as one UEFA Champions League, a Super Cup, and a FIFA Club World Cup.

The German legend proceeded to Real Madrid, winning four La Liga titles, five UEFA Champions League titles, three UEFA Super Cup titles, and five FIFA Club World Cup titles, per Transfermarkt.
