Super Eagles legend Kanu slams Arsenal for offloading Iwobi to Everton

- Kanu Nwankwo believes Arsenal made a mistake in selling Alex Iwobi in 2019

- The Super Eagles forward was sold to Everton while Unai Enery was coach of the Gunners

- The 24-year-old has become a regular in the Toffees squad under Carlo Ancelotti

Kanu Nwankwo has faulted former Arsenal boss Unai Emery for offloading Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi while he was manager of the club, Complete Sports.

The Gunners academy graduate joined Everton for £30million under the tutelage of former Toffees manager Marco Silva in 2019.

The 24-year-old made his way from the club's academy into the first team under legendary boss Arsene Wenger but struggled to play regularly under the Spanish manager.

Arsenal legend Kanu who was happy with the selling of Iwobi was quoted by Complete Sports from Metro UK:

“I was surprised they let Alex Iwobi go when they did,” Kanu, speaking to Ladbrokes at its launch of the 5-A-Side Bet on Arsenal v Everton.
“He was supposed to be a part of this team and I think they’d be a better team with him in it. He’s Arsenal blood and he’s always given his all for the team.
“He plays at an international level. I believe he’d be much more comfortable in this Arsenal team than he is in the Everton team.”

Iwobi became an important member of the Nigerian national team when he was at Arsenal and scored the goal that qualified Nigeria to the 2018 World Cup against Zambia in Uyo.

Before Iwobi's departure to Goodison Park, he scored 15 goals in 149 appearances including a goal in the 2019 Europa League final in Arsenal's 4-1 loss to Chelsea.

Meanwhile, had earlier reported that Alex Iwobi has always attributed his success in his football career to his family and the Everton star posed with a purse that has a picture of them on it.

In a recent social media post, the Super Eagles attacker was holding a purse that had the picture of himself, his father Chuba, his mum and his sister Marie on the small purse.

He captioned: "All I do is for them."
