Gana stated that Nigerians are yearning for Jonathan's return after experiencing two other leaders (late President Muhammadu Buhari and President Bola Tinubu).
“In 2015, former President Goodluck Jonathan said his ambition was not worth the blood of Nigerians. After him, another President ruled for eight years, and now another has ruled for two years. Nigerians have seen the difference, and the difference is very clear. Nigerians are now asking us to bring back our friend, former President Goodluck Jonathan."
He added that:
“I can confirm that Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will contest the presidential election in 2027 as PDP candidate, and we should be prepared to vote for him to return as President again.”
According to Gana, the PDP is 'truly democratic and grassroots-oriented', stating that the party had always allowed Nigerians to freely choose their leaders.
The former minister maintained that the PDP had remained popular because of its people-centred programmes.

Analyst questions Jonathan’s 2027 return, PDP influence
A political analyst, Dare Akinniyi, who serves as the spokesperson for The New Democratic Frontiers, has reacted to speculations that former President Goodluck Jonathan may contest the 2027 election, following claims by former minister Jerry Gana that he would defeat President Bola Tinubu if he runs.
Akinniyi told Legit.ng that the current political and economic situation in the country explains why some Nigerians are calling for Jonathan’s comeback.
“There is no way there won't be 'yearnings for GEJ's return' when the APC has failed to unite the country and develop the economy to solve the problem of unemployment. Insecurity and nepotism are top on the lists of projects of APC to Nigerians.”
He, however, questioned what Jonathan would do differently from his previous time in power.
“My question is: what will Jonathan do better than what he did in pre-2015? I guess he is looking at the case of Donald Trump in the USA, and John Mahama in Ghana.”
The analyst further argued that Jonathan’s influence in the PDP has waned since leaving office, noting that he became distant from the party’s structure.
“Technically, immediately after his defeat in 2015, Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan became inactive in the affairs of the PDP and he assumed the status of an 'Elderstateman'. He was not interested in the structure and what became of the party and I doubt he can get the backing of key stakeholders of the PDP now.”
