Tinubu vs Jonathan, Atiku: Ayodele drops cryptic prophecy on 2027 election

The former governor of Kano was recently faced with many political challenges when his allies dumped the NNPP for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Kwankwaso, who is the leader of the Kwankwasiyyah's movement, has recently been rumoured to be planning to join President Bola Tinubu in the ruling APC, in a bid to strengthen his chances in the 2027 election and maintain his political relevance.

It was also alleged that the Kano-born politician had asked Tinubu to drop Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate in the 2027 election and take him as the VP's replacement. However, sources within the presidency have debunked the claim.

This happened amid the political alignment and realignment in Nigeria's political scene ahead of the 2027 general election. Some of the opposition leaders have come together to form an alliance against Tinubu, but Kwankwaso appeared to be heading on the side of the president.

Lawyer speaks on Kwankwaso's fate

But Azeez told Legit.ng that the recent defection of NNPP chieftains and Kwankwanso's allies would have little or no effect on him because his popularity was built by his supporters and not by his political allies.

The legal practitioner said:

"The former Kano state governor has a cult-like base followers within his state. I don't think the recent defection of some political bigwigs in the New Nigeria People's Party has any dwindling influence on Kwankwaso's political weight. The NNPP was built around the Kwankwasiyya movement headed by Kwankwaso. All the defectors currently holding political offices rode on his popularity into their various offices.
"If the defection of those bigwigs is not a political strategy hatched by Kwankwaso before he finally joins the APC, those defectors may likely lose out in the 2027 elections. Kwankwaso is the current kingmaker in Kano politics. It is just a matter of a little time, I feel he is likely to inherit Buhari's political dynasty in the North."
