Breaking: Drama As Nigerian Governor Suspends Top Commissioner over Alleged Negligence

The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was announced on Thursday, September 11, in a statement by the secretary to the Kebbi state government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida.

According to the statement, the governor directed the commissioner to explain why further sanctions should not be taken against him for negligence and failure to effectively discharge his responsibilities.

“The executive governor has instructed the suspended commissioner for health to justify why further sanctions should not be applied, having disregarded the mandate entrusted to him,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, The Punch reported that the suspension is the latest in the series of disciplinary measures by the Idris administration, which has repeatedly emphasised accountability, discipline and dedication to duty as guiding principles in public service.

The suspension comes amid rising criticism of Kebbi’s healthcare system.

Ebonyi gov suspends 25 commissioners, 66 others

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Ebonyi state governor suspended 25 commissioners and 66 officials for skipping a major government function.

Governor Francis Nwifuru suspended officers, including SSAs, SAs, and permanent secretaries, were placed on a one-month no-salary suspension, effective immediately.

The governor warned against absenteeism, insisting that all appointees must prioritise state duties over private engagements.

Similarly, Legit.ng reported that Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi state has announced the suspension of another commissioner.

Nwifuru suspended the commissioner for Local government and Chieftaincy matters, Uchenna Igwe, with immediate effect.

The governor had earlier suspended the Health and Housing commissioners, Dr. Moses Ekuma and Francis Ori respectively.J

Jigawa commissioner suspended over Ramadan feeding programme

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Governor Malam Umar Namadi suspended the commissioner for Commerce, Alhaji Aminu Kanta.

The Commissioner was suspended over the alleged misappropriation of funds allocated for the Ramadan Iftar Feeding Programme.

The Jigawa state Kanta's suspension takes effect immediately until the determination of the investigative committee.
