Breaking: Court Orders David Mark, Aregbesola to Stop Parading Themselves As ADC Chairman, Secretary

  • The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been ordered not to recognise David Mark and a former Osun state governor, Rauf Aregbesola, as leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC)

The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising David Mark and a former Osun state governor, Rauf Aregbesola, as interim national chairman and national secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

This followed a motion ex parte dated September 2, 2025, and filed by Nafiu Gombe.

It listed the ADC, Mark, and Aregbesola as the first, second, and third defendants, respectively.

As reported by Channels TV, INEC and a former national chairman of the party, Ralph Nwosu, were listed as the fourth and fifth defendants, respectively.

The order of interim injunction issued by Justice Emeka Nwite also restrained INEC from recognising the representatives of Mark and Aregbesola, pending the hearing of the motion on notice already filed in the matter.

INEC takes decision on David Mark-led ADC

On Wednesday, September 10, Legit.ng reported that ahead of the 2027 election, INEC recognised Mark and Aregbesola as the national chairman and national secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

INEC equally recognised other interim national officers of the opposition party.

Other principal officers now officially recognised by the electoral body include a former Edo governor, Oserheimen Osunbor, as national legal adviser; Ibrahim Mani as national treasurer; and Akibu Dalhatu as national financial secretary.

Recall that in June 2025, Atiku Abubakar dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined forces with other major opposition leaders, including Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, to form a coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The alliance is expected to challenge President Tinubu in the 2027 election.

“ADC will take over power," Atiku declares

In another development, Legit.ng reported that Atiku Abubakar assured that the newly adopted coalition party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), would challenge President Tinubu in the 2027 election.

Atiku stated this recently and maintained that Nigeria "can never be a one-party state," hence the need for the ADC to unseat Tinubu and the ruling APC in 2027.
