  • Sule Lamido, the former governor of Jigawa, made the allegation, adding that the PDP would have a fresh breath if President Bola Tinubu sack Wike
  • Lamido alleged that the ruling APC infiltrated the PDP through people like Wike and that the party would get it right if it sanctions the likes of the FCT minister

The former Jigawa governor and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, has alleged that the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is the major problem of the leading opposition party.

Lamido claimed that Wike has been parading himself as the owner of the PDP only because he is a serving minister under the President Bola Tinubu's administration, adding that the leading opposition party would have a fresh breath if the FCT minister is sacked.

Lamido explains how APC is weakening opposition

The PDP chieftain, in an interview with Daily Trust, commented on how the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is weakening the opposition party and advised the umbrella party to go back to its constitution and do things rightly.

He maintained that presently, the PDP is not operating based on "its own rules, regulations and constitution", adding that personal interests have taken over the objective of the party. He stated that the party would get it right once it decided to govern itself based on "its rules and constitution".

The former governor also called for sanctions against those who have erred, adding that the ruling APC has infiltrated the party through someone like Wike. He noted that the PDP would breathe a fresh air if the FCT minister were not in power.

Lamido speaks on 2027 election

In the interview, Lamido also denied knowing about the speculation linking him to a possible vice-presidential ticket with former president Goodluck Jonathan in the 2027 election.

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo was speculated to have nominated the former governor of Jigawa in his calculation to oust President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next general elections.

He maintained that he also questions the authenticity of things ascribed to the former president when he had not heard it from him directly. He maintained that his relationship with Obasanjo was intertwined and that he was hearing about the nomination for the first time.

2027 election: Lamido speaks on coalition chances

Legit.ng earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu's chances in the 2027 general elections were said to be under threat with the emergence of an opposition coalition.

However, Sule Lamido, a PDP chieftain and former Jigawa governor, said the coalition may get it wrong in the 2027 election if it picks the wrong presidential candidate.

Lamido explained that the ADC coalition was a coming together of individuals, while that of 2014 was a coalition of organic, cohesive and organised political institutions.
