Opposition leaders adopt ADC
The ADC, which was adopted by the opposition leaders to challenge the ruling APC, its dominance, and to sack President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
The coalition, which was being championed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. He was being joined by former lawmakers, ex-ministers, former governors, including Peter Obi of the Labour Party, Nasir El-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi, who resigned from the party.
Since the adoption, the ADC has garnered momentum as the party now positions itself as a preferred alternative for Nigerians, citing the public pains over the economic hardship and insecurity in the country.
Despite the coalition movement formed by the heavyweight politicians, the ADC was unable to challenge the dominance of the APC in the Saturday, August 16 by-elections, which took place in 12 states. The bye-elections covered two senatorial seats, 5 House of Reps and 9 state constituencies.

How APC, PDP perform in bye-elections
From the results that emerged, the APC won 12 of the 16 seats in the rerun election. The remaining four seats were shared between the All Progressives Grand Alliance, the Peoples Democratic Party and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), which scored 2, 1, and 1 each.
None of the seats in the 12 states was won by the coalition bride, ADC. Meanwhile, the ruling party noted that the victory of the APC in the bye-elections was a testament to the people's endorsement of President Bola Tinubu and his Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking on the APC's performance in the bye-election on Saturday, August 16, Onanuga shaded the ADC leadership and asked them, “How is the market now?” Onanuga made the comment while sharing the pictures of Atiku and Peter Obi. The election was a test for the opposition to test their strength ahead of the 2027 election.

Reactions as court declares APC, PDP a terrorist organisation
Legit.ng earlier reported that the APC and the PDP have condemned the judgment of the Federal Court of Canada, tagging them as terrorist organisations.
Justice Phuong Ngo, in a judgment on June 17, 2025, classified the APC and the PDP as terrorist organisations, while denying Douglas Egbarevba, a former member of both parties, asylum.
Reacting, the PDP said the ruling was biased and misinformed, while the APC insisted that the party remained a democratic, credible organisation that did not need validation from a foreign court.
