Dangote set to build largest fertiliser plant

Legit.ng previously reported that Dangote Industries and Ethiopia have reached a significant agreement for the establishment of a large fertiliser facility in the Somali Regional State. The $3 billion project aims to boost agricultural output, which has recently been hindered by fertiliser shortages, and stabilise regional supply chains.

The proposed factory will produce nitrogen and urea-based fertilisers for both domestic and export markets. It will be strategically located near the logistics corridor between Ethiopia and Djibouti, providing easier access to ports for importing raw materials and exporting the finished fertiliser.

Farmers lament fertiliser hike across the country

Legit.ng also reported that food production may witness another major setback as the cost of fertiliser skyrockets across Nigeria, threatening both food security and food prices.

Contrary to the federal government's recent assertion that free fertiliser distribution supported farmers nationwide, many are still struggling with soaring production costs. The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, in a statement released on June 22, 2025, said, “The ministry has invested over N200 billion in terms of intervention.”
