PDP Issues Fresh Threat to Gov Adeleke, Wike, Others

  • The PDP has issued a major threat to the likes of Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun and the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for endorsing President Bola Tinubu's second-term ambition
  • Aside from Adeleke and Wike, former Governor Samuel Ortom, and some PDP senators, and several chieftains of the party have endorsed Tinubu for a second term
  • Speaking on the development, the PDP maintained that the actions of the members are a clear violation of the party's constitution

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has sent a major warning to its members endorsing President Bola Tinubu's second-term ambition. The party described the actions of the party's chieftains as anti-party activities.

Debo Ologunagba, the spokesperson of the party, in a statement on Friday, August 8, disclosed that the PDP has reviewed what was described as “persistent public media outbursts” by some of the party members who have declared their support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

PDP leaders who have endorsed Tinubu

Some prominent members of the PDP, including Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT); Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, and former governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom, among several others.

Wike and Ortom supported Tinubu in the 2023 election without denouncing their membership in the PDP. Their action was spurred out of anger with the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and the leadership of the party, who rejected the southern bloc in the leadership structure.

They have recently endorsed President Tinubu for a second term. Wike, who is serving as a minister under Tinubu's government, has said that he will spearhead the campaigns of Tinubu in Rivers for the 2027 election, while Ortom advocated for the completion of President Tinubu's second term in office.

Has Governor Adeleke declared support for Tinubu?

Governor Adeleke, on the other hand, declared that he will support the second-term ambition of Tinubu but will not be leaving the PDP for the APC. Adeleke's endorsement of Tinubu followed his series of meetings with the president and the report that he was making an alliance with Tinubu to secure his second term in the 2026 governorship election in the state.
