FCT, Abuja - The 70th birthday celebration of Bishop Matthew Kukah in Abuja on Wednesday, August 31, has brought together prominent Nigerian politicians in Nigeria, including Bola Tinubu and Peter Obi, the presidential candidates of the APC and the Labour Party respectively.

Tinubu's running mate, Kashim Shettima, former President Goodluck Jonathan, Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor Aminu Tambuwal and others are also present at the gathering.

Tambuwal, who is chairing Kukah’s ongoing 70th birthday celebration in Abuja, commended Kukah for his strong belief in the possibility of a new Nigeria, The Punch reported.

The governor also described the cleric as a man with an undying love for the country.

Tambuwal said that although Kukah’s criticism of the nn’s bad governance has been controversial, he (Kukah) believed Nigeria could and would come out of the doldrums of failed political leadership.

Before Tambuwal's arrival, he was represented by a former governor of Imo state and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha.

He said Kukah’s love for a United Nigeria had remained unsurpassed.

“His (Kukah’s) writings over the years have become controversial and have drawn the ire of powers that be, but what is not in doubt is his undying love for Nigeria and Nigerians, and his belief in the possibility of a new Nigeria where justice and equity reigns”, he said.

In another report, the 2023 presidential flag bearer of the ruling APC, Tinubu, has hailed Bishop Peter Ebere Okpaleke who recently got promotion as a cardinal in the Catholic church.

Tinubu in a statement made available to Legit.ng described the promotion as well-deserved while thanking Pope Francis of the Vatican for approving Okpaleke’s elevation in the Catholic ministry.

The APC stalwart stated that the promotion also proves the Catholicism in Nigeria is waxing stronger.
