Just In: Influential APC Governor Hands Over Power To Deputy, Gives Crucial Reason

Following his decision to attend the Authentic Leadership Development Programme at Harvard Business School, Boston, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano has handed over power to his deputy, Nasir Gawuna.

As reported by the state's commissioner for information, Malam Muhammad Garba, Governor Ganduje will be in the United States (US) attending the programme for a week, Punch reports.

Garba in his statement on Wednesday, December 8, that the governor has ordered that all official transactions in the state should be done through the office of Deputy Governor Gawuna, Daily Trust added.

The commissioner affirmed that within this period, Gawuna will serve as the acting governor of the state.

Meanwhile, Ganduje had called on his colleagues across the country to work in harmony. He urged the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) to avoid unnecessary tussles as they serve the purpose they are elected.

The Kano governor gave this charge while speaking at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, during an occasion to commemorate Nigeria's 61st Independence anniversary.

According to him, governors are supposed to fight together and not against one another.

He said:

“Governors are elected to come together, fight together and work together to promote unity, good governance, better understanding for the progress and development of the nation."

In another development, the Kano governor said zoning should be respected because it is a strategy to winning the 2023 presidential election.

He made this disclosure on Friday, February 12, when he spoke with journalists in an interview.

According to the governor, the All Progressives Congress (APC), should allow power to move to the southern part of the country for the sake of fairness.
