A Nigerian man took to social media to caution corps members and prospective interns against choosing Lagos as their place of primary assignment without first securing accommodation.
Peter Oluwagbemiga, writing on X, said anyone heading to Lagos for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) or an internship without a place to stay was setting themselves up for hardship.

Drawing from personal experience, he described what daily life looked like when he had no accommodation in Lagos and was forced to commute from Ogun State to Victoria Island every single day.
Peter's Lagos Commute Story
According to Peter, the daily journey required him to leave his house before 5 am just to make it to work on time.
He made clear that the physical and mental toll of that routine was not something to take lightly, warning prospective corps members that the city would wear them down.
He wrote that people would suffer and cry, and that their bodies would tell them.
Peter urged anyone without a confirmed place to stay to reconsider their posting choice entirely.
Lagos, Nigeria's commercial capital, was one of the most sought-after NYSC postings among corps members, largely due to its job opportunities and networking prospects.
However, the city's notoriously heavy traffic and high cost of living made accommodation a critical factor for anyone relocating there for a year-long service.
Commenting on the story, Victoria, a Nigerian lady who served in Lagos, lamented that transportation and housing are indeed expensive in Lagos.
"He's not lying transportation is on the high side in Lagos. Even to see house is problem. A normal self contain, they will call over N1 million depending on the location. So his advice is solid. Unless you want to be living like a pauper," she said.
