To further enrich the story and get the comments of the affected individual, Legit.ng reached out to Oluwatomisin Balogun, Founder of Tworld Events, for comments.
Although her office is located at Ikosi, Ketu, Lagos State, she had been contracted for an event in Ogun State where an unforeseen incident disrupted her work.
Several questions were posed to her, and she gave detailed responses based on her expertise and the challenges she faced that day.
When asked if she had ever experienced anything like this before as an event decorator, Oluwatomisin admitted:
“No, it’s my first time experiencing such during an event.”
Speaking about the financial and emotional implications, she explained:
“It cost me ₦40,000 to wash the rug. The rug is still presently at the car wash. It will take a while before I can get it back due to the present weather condition.”

She added that beyond finances, the emotional impact was difficult to bear:
“It was painful that the photo area beautifully styled didn’t even serve its purpose before the rain messed it up. Guests couldn’t use the backdrop to take pictures.”
On the kind of support decorators need to either prevent or recover from such damages, she responded:
“You can’t prevent the rain but you can choose where to use your materials. Using a floor that is tiled would have prevented the mess on the rug. Another option is to remove the rug when the rain starts. To recover from the damages, it takes the client to empathize with the decorator by contributing financially towards the cleaning.”
Looking back, she shared the personal lessons she drew from the incident:
“As a decorator, before you go ahead with a setup, inspect your venue and do not use your materials on a sandy floor, especially in rainy season. Other materials like table cover, chair covers, even flowers were in mess that day. I just didn’t remember to capture.”

When asked what message she would like to pass to clients, government, and fellow decorators after this experience, she stressed empathy and better planning:
“Decorators are humans too and we need empathy at times like this. Government can do better by providing good roads. Attention shouldn’t be on major roads only but streets. Fellow decorators should negotiate with their client(s) on materials safety management and recovery before going ahead with the project, especially for outdoor events.”
