Izunna Dike, a Nigerian food blogger based in Canada, has caused a stir on X (formerly Twitter) after showcasing the stark difference in the cost of a one-way flight from Benin to Abuja via the Air Peace airline in 2021, and what it costs at present.

According to Izunna, he recently found the 2021 screenshot of the one-way flight, and called people's attention to the price.

The price in the screenshot showed the 2021 flight cost N29,900.

In a sharp contrast, the other screenshot he attached of the current price via the Air Peace airline showed it now costs N238,300 (for the best offer) and N285,800, being the purported normal air fare on Monday, June 23.

He wrote:

"I just found a screenshot of when I was booking Benin to Abuja, one way with Air Peace in 2021. Look at the price.
"Now look at the price on the next frame from today, just 4 years later."

When Legit.ng checked Air Peace's website as of 8:47 pm Nigerian time to ascertain the blogger's claim, there were no more seats available for that particular route and no price was available as a result of that.

NCAA explains how airlines fix ticket prices

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had explained what goes into deciding air fares.

The NCAA director of Consumer Protection and Public Affairs, Michael Achimugu, explained that airlines must submit their airfare list to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) annually, following established guidelines.

Achimugu noted that several factors have contributed to the airlines refusing to release cheaper tickets. One of them was the difficulty in repatriating funds.
