Firm Launches Mobile Toilets to Tackle Open Defecation

As Nigeria observes World Toilet Day 2025 with the theme “Accelerating Sanitation for All,” Just Fix It Synergy Limited is deploying its #GreenToilet mobile toilets to underserved communities across the country.

Led by CEO Mekwunye Kidochukwu Prince, the company plans to provide over 1 million Nigerians with access to sanitation by 2026 and create more than 1,000 jobs in toilet management.

“Nigeria has been struggling with sanitation for decades, and over 47 million people still practice open defecation,” Mr. Mekwunye said. “We wanted to do something tangible, something that can be deployed quickly, but also something that Nigerians can call their own. That’s how the #GreenToilet project started.”

Nigeria continues to rank first globally in open defecation, according to reports from UNICEF and WaterAid. Poor sanitation contributes to hygiene-related diseases and affects community health, particularly in rural and low-income urban areas.

Over the past three years, Just Fix It Synergy has developed prefabricated, cost-effective mobile toilets using locally sourced materials. The company’s units range from single toilets to 10-in-1 solar-powered modular facilities, designed for rapid installation in schools, markets, and other high-need areas.

“From day one, our focus has been on accessibility and usability,” Prince said. “These toilets are easy to maintain, easy to operate, and adaptable to different community needs. People need a facility that works reliably.”

Community response has been encouraging. “Residents tell us they finally feel dignity and safety when using our toilets,” Mr. Mekwunye added. “It goes way beyond hygiene, it’s about trust. If a toilet is dirty or broken, people won’t use it. Our approach ensures functionality and reliability.”

Looking ahead, the company plans to expand into public toilet operations and management in strategic communities, alongside initiatives for waste recycling and value addition. “We’re creating more than toilets,” Mr. Mekwunye said. “We’re creating systems, jobs, and opportunities for entrepreneurship. Waste management is an untapped sector and we want Nigerians to benefit from it.”

Just Fix It Synergy also emphasizes local content. “We design, build, and maintain everything here in Nigeria. Solutions must come from within if they are to work sustainably,” Prince explained.

The company will also present its solutions at the National Sanitation Conference, scheduled for November 17–18, 2025, at the Abuja Continental Hotel. “This will be an opportunity for stakeholders to see our models firsthand, understand how they work, and explore partnerships,” Mr. Mekwunye said.

He added that collaboration is key to achieving national sanitation goals. “We welcome investors, community leaders, and organizations to join us. Sanitation is everyone’s business, and with advocacy and proper investment, we can close the gap faster.”

Mr. Mekwunye described the #GreenToilet project as a long-term commitment. “Every unit deployed is more than a toilet. It represents a step toward ending open defecation, improving public health, and providing dignity to Nigerians who have been underserved for decades.”
