Family alleges foul play in NSCDC officer’s death
The circumstances surrounding his death have sparked suspicion among family members who are demanding clarity from the authorities, Daily Trust reported.
His widow, Mrs Titilayo Adams, alleged that details provided so far do not add up and suggested that there might be attempts to conceal what truly happened.
“From his body — we can visibly see gunshots at his shoulders, and nothing strong indicating that it’s accidental fire. They want to cover up what actually occurred,” she said.
According to her, the officer left home that Sunday morning with the intention of returning later in the day but never made it back. She said the family only learnt of his death hours later through a colleague identified as Mr Emmanuel, who claimed it was an accident.
“It’s after Sunday service that his colleague Mr Emmanuel came to inform us that he mistakenly shot himself multiple times which led to his death. And we learnt that Emmanuel himself wasn’t at the spot where it happened. He was called and informed about the incident,” she explained.
Conflicting reports on cause of shooting raise suspicion
The widow expressed concern over what she described as conflicting reports surrounding the circumstances of her husband’s death.

She listed different accounts received so far, including accidental discharge while fixing his rifle, friendly fire from a colleague, and a claim that he fired into the air and the bullet ricocheted.
“So, we suspect that there’s ‘foul play’ surrounding the whole incident. We are given three conflicting reports about what led to his death,” she added.
Mrs Adams further lamented that her husband’s body was taken to Maitama General Hospital without the family’s consent. She also said the family has yet to receive an official briefing from the NSCDC.
“They (authorities concerned) said they are coming to see us but to this moment nobody contacted us to brief us about the mysterious incident that led to the untimely death of my husband,” she said.
Calls for justice as widow laments hardship
The widow appealed for justice while drawing attention to the hardship the family now faces following the officer’s death.
“My husband left behind his parents, two children who supposedly resumed school today, and our house rent also expired. They should also take care of his burial rites. I have no job to cater for the children — all I want is justice for my husband,” she stated.
As of the time of filing this report, the NSCDC spokesperson in Abuja, Monica Ojobi, had not responded to inquiries.
The FCT Police Command PRO, Josephine Adeh, said she would make inquiries and revert but had not provided details at the time.
