Jubilation as Nigerian Governor Approves N250k for Fathers, N50k for Mothers of 90 Students
- Borno governor, Babagana Zulum, has approved the sum of N250,000 and N50,000 for fathers and mothers of 90 students for enrolling their wards in secondary schools in northern Borno
- Governor Zulum also announced a fresh package for the students, as well as free daily meals to support their education
- Zulum further announced scholarships for some of the students who sang the enrolment songs at the event on Friday, September 5
Babagana Umara Zulum, the governor of Borno, has approved the provision of free meals for students and financial assistance of up to N300,000 for parents of pupils who were enrolled on secondary school in the Magumeri Local Government Area of the state.
The council, which is located in the northern part of Borno, has been confronted with low enrollment in secondary schools for Western education. The situation worsened with the decade of insurgency in the state.

Governor Zulum, while speaking at the inauguration of the Higher Islamic College in Gajiganna, on Friday, September 5, disclosed that similar colleges have already been created in other parts of the state to provide literacy and skilled education to the Almajiri pupils.
Zulum laments poor education in northern Borno
Daily Trust reported that the governor lamented that the town, which was about 50,000 people in population, had only 90 students who were enrolled in the secondary school.
He added that the parents of the 90 students must be supported so that they can complete their studies. Governor Zulum emphasised that the government's support would allow the parents to achieve significant results.
He then went further to announce stipends of N250,000 for fathers and N50,000 for mothers of each of the students.
The governor said:
“We will approve stipends of N250,000 for their fathers and N50,000 for each of their mothers."
Zulum promises financial assistance for Borno students
Governor Zulum also promised that his administration would set aside N50,000 in financial assistance for each of the students to cater for their essential needs. He emphasised the need to put deliberate efforts in place to strengthen education in the northern parts of the state.
He noted that the northern part of the state is the only region that has yet to be developed in the area of education and urged the chairmen of the primary and secondary education boards to pay attention to the area.
Zulum then directed that one square meal per day should be provided for the students, and also approved comprehensive scholarships for nine girls who sang the enrollment songs at the event.
He noted that the primary objective was to provide the children with the required skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the present generation.

Tinubu visits Maiduguri over flood disaster
Legit.ng earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu has visited Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, to share his sympathy and condolences with the government and people of the state over the recent flood disaster.
The president was reported to be planning an on-the-spot assessment of the effect of the flood disaster, which consumed over 80 per cent of the capital's major cities.
According to the video of his visit, Tinubu was received by Governor Babagana Zulum and other government officials in the state.
