Report has revealed that Lagos state benefited from N3.9 trillion in project approvals by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) over the last two years.
This, however, represents 111 per cent of the combined N3.56 trillion approved for 18 states across the South East, North West, and North East.

During the same period, FEC approved projects across Nigeria worth a total of N15.79 trillion, including allocations for legacy road projects and key infrastructure in the South West, South South, South East, North Central, North West, and North East.
Major airport upgrades in Lagos
Among the significant approvals for Lagos is the full rehabilitation, upgrade, and modernisation of International Terminal One at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, costing N712 billion.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), said the project would involve stripping the terminal down to its structural core and rebuilding it with new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
“We have decided to strip it down to only the carcass and then do the complete M&E again,” Keyamo said.
The airport expansion also includes upgrades to Terminal Two and enhanced perimeter security, reflecting the administration’s focus on modernising Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure.
FG defends equitable distribution
The government has faced accusations of favouring Lagos and the South West, with critics claiming the region has enjoyed disproportionate attention.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, dismissed these claims, insisting that infrastructure projects and federal appointments are being fairly distributed across all six geopolitical zones.
“The distribution of capital projects under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is being equitably implemented. No region is playing second fiddle,” Idris said.
He highlighted that while Lagos receives substantial investments, other regions are also seeing major road, rail, and urban development projects, including initiatives to expand light rail networks in northern cities, which are expected to create over 250,000 jobs nationwide.
Nationwide infrastructure approvals

Over the two-year period, the FEC has approved substantial funding for roads, bridges, dams, airports, and coastal projects across Nigeria, including the rehabilitation of highways, construction of coastal corridors, and deployment of electric vehicles in the North East.
These approvals form part of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at boosting connectivity, stimulating economic activity, and improving national infrastructure.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who also chairs the FEC, hails from Lagos, leading some critics to suggest that the region receives preferential treatment.
However, the administration maintains that allocations are based on strategic planning, regional needs, and economic priorities rather than personal or regional bias.
