Lady, Lover Stage Own Kidnap in Anambra, Demand N15m As Ransom, Police React

The Anambra state police command has arrested two suspects for faking a kidnap and recovered the sum of N1.2million, being part of the ransom earlier paid by the supposed kidnapped victim’s family members.

Lady, boyfriend arrested, police recover N1.2 million

The spokesman of the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed this in a statement released on Saturday, August 30.

According to the statement, the suspects, identified as Nmesoma Nwoye, female, aged 23 years, and Chibuike Ogbu, male, aged 24 years, were arrested after intelligence-led operations uncovered that the supposed victim conspired with Chibuike (her boyfriend) to stage her own abduction.

As reported by The Punch, Ikenga said that the suspects initially demanded N15million ransom, and after negotiation, N3million was transferred into the victim’s account.

Anambra CP reacts to fake kidnapping scheme

He said following the arrest of the suspects, the commissioner of police in the state, CP Ikioye Orutugu, expressed deep concern over the rising cases of moral decadence in the society.

As reported by The Punch, he added that the suspects were arrested by police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu.

According to him, the CP urged parents, guardians, and religious leaders to intensify efforts in inculcating discipline, integrity, and sound values in their children and wards.

“The CP also warned youths against engaging in self-destructive ventures, stressing that the long arm of the law will always catch up with criminals, no matter how cleverly disguised their schemes may be,” the statement added.

Similarly, Legit.ng reported that four individuals, including a man, his wife, girlfriend, and her younger sister, have carried out a failed kidnapping scheme to extort N5 million from the girl’s father.

FCT police command arrested them and uncovered that they had faked the teenage girl's kidnap and also demanded ransom.

The command's public relations officer, Josephine Adeh, confirmed this in a statement and shared further details.
