Tragedy Strikes in Zaria: Mother, 3 Children Die As Building Collapses

In a tragic turn of events, a mother and three of her children have reportedly lost their lives following a building collapse in Zaria, Kaduna state.

Victims died on the spot - Relative

Mallama Habiba Nuhu was reported to have lost her life, along with two of her children and a grandson, at Karauka in Zaria city.

Mallam Ahmed Ibrahim, a relative to the deceased, confirmed the tragic incident and revealed that the collapses was caused by ceaseless rainfall.

He explained that:

“The incident occurred between 3.30am and 4am on Wednesday when a neighbour’s house mud wall collapsed on the deceased room.
“Mallam Nuhu Dogara who is the husband and father to the deceased was however recovered alive and rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
“He was later discharged shortly before the funeral prayer of the deceased.
“The collapse was caused by ceaseless rainfall recorded in Zaria. And the victims died on the spot, because they were covered by rubbles.”

As reported by Daily Trust, Ibrahim gave the names of the children and grandchild as Hauwa’u Nuhu, Aina’u Nuhu and Za’uma respectively.

Bello Garba, Zone 1 coordinator, Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency, said he was not officially informed, but pledged to follow up for immediate assessment.

Katsina: Mother, 5 children die as building collapses

In a similar development, Legit.ng reported that a mother and her five children were killed when their home collapsed during heavy rainfall in Dankama village, Katsina state.

The family was asleep when the wall gave way, while four others were injured and taken to the hospital.

The father, Muhammad Sani Garba, who was away at the time, described the tragedy as the will of Allah.

Building collapse in Ibadan

In June, Legit.ng reported that a building reportedly owned by a fast-rising eatery collapsed in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state.

The structure, located along the main road connecting Dugbe to Mokola, was under construction at the time of the incident.

Sources disclosed that the collapsed building had recently been acquired by the popular food brand to serve as one of its branches.

Building under construction collapses in Lekki, Lagos

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that a building collapse in Ikota, Lekki, Lagos State, on January 28, 2025, left two dead and five others seriously injured, with some still feared trapped under the rubble.

NEMA confirmed the recovery of two bodies: an adult male and a young boy.

Five injured workers were rescued and hospitalized, while search and rescue efforts continue LASEMA joined the rescue operations, deploying heavy-duty equipment, while both agencies vowed to conduct a full investigation to determine the cause of the collapse.
