Court Takes Decision Over NYCN Certificate Withdrawal Dispute

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered all parties to maintain the status quo in the ongoing dispute over the purported withdrawal of the Certificate of Incorporated Trustees of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) and the appointment of an Interim Management Committee by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

The order, issued by Justice Binta Nyako, also directed the Federal Ministry of Youth Development and the Minister for Youth Development—both listed as defendants in the suit—to refrain from taking any further action pending the determination of the motion on notice for an interlocutory injunction.

Court halts action pending full hearing

The Incorporated Trustees of the National Youth Council of Nigeria and Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, who serves as NYCN President and Secretary of the Board of Trustees, had filed the suit as claimants.

Through their counsel, Mustapha Shaba Ibrahim (SAN) and Sheriff Aduke, the claimants sought an interim injunction restraining the CAC Registrar-General, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji (SAN), and the Commission from withdrawing the Council’s Certificate of Incorporation or recognising any other leadership.

They also prayed the court to restrain the Minister and the Ministry of Youth Development from acting on the alleged withdrawal of NYCN’s registration certificate.

Justice Nyako rules for status quo

During Thursday’s proceedings, Justice Nyako held that the matter was best determined on notice rather than ex parte and ordered that all parties maintain the current state of affairs.

The judge further directed that the defendants be served with notice of the application before the next hearing, which she adjourned to October 28, 2025, for the motion on notice.

NYCN reacts

In a statement signed by the Media Unit, Office of the President, National Youth Council of Nigeria, the Council welcomed the decision, describing it as a step toward upholding the rule of law and protecting the integrity of the youth body.

The statement reaffirmed NYCN’s confidence in the judiciary, expressing optimism that justice would prevail in the matter.
