FCT, Abuja - President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received commendations from political leaders and civil society in the South-East over the appointment of Peter Ogbonna Eze as the Federal Character Commission (FCC) Commissioner representing Enugu State.
Governor Alex Otti recently congratulated all newly appointed commissioners from the South-East region, namely Obinna Oriaku (Abia) Jerry Alagbaoso (Imo), Nnoli Nkechi Gloria (Anambra), Barr. Nwokpor Vincent Nduka (Ebonyi), and Eze (Enugu).

Wave of commendations trail Eze's FCC appointment
Governor Otti urged the newly appointed commissioners to approach their duties with patriotism, integrity, and a deep sense of responsibility to the Nigerian people.
The Labour Party (LP) governor stressed that their decisions would shape national unity and development.
The Governor pledged his administration’s readiness to offer institutional and moral support to the appointees whenever necessary to ensure their success.
This was contained in a statement issued by Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, which was made available to Legit.ng.
Chief Dr Oby Promise Ajih, from Enugu North, described the appointment as 'a proud moment for Aji community, Igbo Eze North, and Enugu State as a whole', affirming her belief that Eze would serve with integrity and vision.
The APC House of Representatives candidate for Udenu/Igbo Eze North Federal Constituency in the 2023/2024 rerun election hailed President Tinubu for recognising Eze’s capacity.
The national coordinator of the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, described President Tinubu’s choice of Peter Eze as 'timely, strategic, and merit-based'.

Eze's FCC appointment 'inspires a new generation'
Similarly, the Orji Uzor Kalu (OUK) Grassroots Movement of Nigeria for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, described Eze as 'a symbol of the new energy needed in governance'.
The group, led by Convener Alhaji Muritala Mohamed and Secretary General Dr Ejike Nwangwu, stressed that Eze’s appointment showed President Tinubu’s belief in the capacity of young leaders.
“We see in him the potential to deliver impactful representation for Enugu State and inspire the next generation of political leaders."
The National Conscience Alliance (NCA) said Eze’s appointment is a reflection of President Tinubu’s responsiveness to calls for greater youth representation in national governance.
NCA's national coordinator, Dr Nuhu Abubakar, and secretary general, Arc. Anayo Sixtus, disclosed this in a statement.

Mazi Ezenwa Onyirimba, the national director of the Youth and Student Council of the APC, explained that Eze’s appointment would inspire many young Nigerians to believe in public service as a viable path to making a difference.
Onyirimba, who is also the chairman of the South-East Youth Stakeholders Forum, emphasised that the FCC’s success depends on energetic, principled leaders who can stand for fairness and justice.

Who is FCC commissioner Peter Ogbonna Eze?
Peter Ogbonna Eze is an economist, public administrator, and business leader.
The newly appointed FCC commissioner has a rich international background in management, leadership, and strategic partnerships.
Eze was a former special assistant to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, chairman of the Senate Committee on the South-East Development Commission.
Tinubu makes U-turn on FCC appointment
Legit.ng earlier reported that President Tinubu reversed his earlier move of retaining Muheeba Dankaka as the FCC executive chairman.
The presidency, in a statement on August 11, said Ayo Hulayat Omidiran, a former House of Representatives member, would head the commission.
President Tinubu also announced the appointment of Mohammed Musa as the FCC's secretary and other commissioners for each of Nigeria's states.
