Court Takes Action Against Man Who Reportedly Threatened To Kill Top Nigerian Governor

Ibadan, Oyo state - A 32-year-old man, Rasaq Gafar, has been arraigned before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly threatening the life of Osun state Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

The arraignment took place on Wednesday, August 6, with Gafar facing charges of threatening to kill, threatening life, and breaching public peace. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Prosecutor outlines offences

The police prosecutor, Mr Matthew Ojei, told the court that the incident happened on 12 July in Ibadan.

“The defendant sent threatening messages through social media, clearly targeting the governor. His actions were capable of disrupting public peace," Ojei said.

Ojei further explained that Gafar’s conduct contravenes Sections 249 (D) and 323 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo state, 2000.

Gafar’s counsel, Mr Marvelous Ojeleye, pleaded with the court to grant bail on lenient terms.

“My client is prepared to face trial. We kindly request the court to consider granting bail on the most liberal terms,” he said.

Court grants N2.5 million bail

Chief Magistrate Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi approved bail in the sum of ₦2.5 million.

She ruled that two sureties must be provided, one of whom must own a landed property, while the other must be a blood relation of the defendant.

“The sureties must be verified and reliable,” she stated, before adjourning the case to 13 November for hearing.

Pastor arraigned for destroying property worth N247m

Previously, Legit.ng a pastor, Apostle Adefiju Boluwaji, has been arraigned before an Akure Chief Magistrate Court in Ondo state for allegedly destroying agricultural property valued at N247 million.

Boluwaji, who had reportedly evaded arrest for several months, was apprehended by the Ondo state police command last Saturday, August 3.

According to the charge sheet, Boluwaji and others still at large were accused of unlawfully entering a disputed piece of land in Omilosu via Bolorunduro, Ondo East Local Government Area, on 25 November 2024.
