Qatar Reportedly Postpones President Buhari’s Planned Visit, Reasons Revealed

  • The Qatar government has reportedly asked President Muhammadu Buhari not to visit the country this year again
  • Recall that President Buhari was invited to the Middle East country by H.H Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar
  • However, the reason for the official rejection of the proposed dates is believed to be due to the coming World Cup which will be hosted in the country

Some plans of President Muhammadu Buhari might be put on hold following a request by the government of Qatar over the proposed visit of the Nigerian government to the Arab country.

Specifically, the government of Qatar requested for a change in dates for the planned visit which was scheduled for this September.

The Cable reports that the Quater embassy in a letter dated August 19 from the embassy of Qatar in Abuja to the ministry of foreign affairs, said that the dates of the proposed visitation “are not suitable”.

The news outlet quoted the statement to have read:

“The Embassy of the State of Qatar in Abuja presents its compliments to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Regions Department) and with reference to the latter’s note M 403/2022 dated 12/08/2022 informing that H.E Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has accepted to visit Qatar on 11-12 September 2022 on the invitation of H.H Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar,” the statement reads.
"The proposed dates for the visit are not suitable and kindly request the Nigerian side to propose other dates for the visit during the first quarter of the year 2023.

“The Embassy of the State of Qatar avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Regions Department) the assurance of its highest consideration."

However, the rejection of the planned visit is believed to be due to the Middle East country’s preparation for the 2022 World Cup as Qatar is billed to host the FIFA World Cup from November 21 to December 18 later this year.

Buhari’s former aide dumps APC, declares for Kano governorship in another prominent party

Meanwhile, Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada, a former media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari and member of the House of Representatives, has declared interest to run for the office of Kano state governor in the 2023 general elections.

Sharada made a formal declaration at the weekend to contest on the platform of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) at the Sani Abacha Youth Centre in Kano.

Legit.ng gathers that the lawmaker recently defected from the APC and joined the ADP to give his former party a challenge in the 2023 elections. Sharada was a member of the popular G-7, a faction of the APC in Kano that was led by Senator Ibrahim Shekarau.
