Brymo Calls Out Burna Boy, Davido, Others for ‘Exploiting’ Young Artists: “Stop Pretending to Help”
- Nigerian singer and songwriter Olawale Oloforo, best known as Brymo sent an open message to the top music stars in the country
- In his Instagram story, he accused Burna Boy, Davido, and others of extorting from young, talented artists
- Brymo further offered his advice on things he had noticed about the music business, triggering reactions online
Popular Nigerian singer Brymo has slammed Nigerian music heavyweights such as Burna Boy and Davido, demanding they stop frequently featuring on current songs by young artists.
In a post on his Instagram account, Brymo claimed that top artists frequently jump on remixes of hit songs by emerging talents, not to support them, but to capitalise on their excitement and maintain their own relevance.

“Dear Nigerian mainstream ‘A-listers,’ Burna [Boy], Davido and Co, stop jumping on every hit song in a remix, especially releases by newer acts,” Brymo wrote.
According to him, such methods deny young talents the ability to develop organically while giving the impression of mentorship.
Butressing further, he said: “Let other artistes find their own way. The pretending to be helping them reach higher is a ridiculous watch. Stop seeking relevance in the efforts of ones who know little about the business. It’s vile!”

There is the art for art’s sake - AKSTREETZ, Music PR Executive
In a chat with AkSTREETZ, he discussed how authenticity and good marketing are both important when collaborating with artists.
"There is the art for art’s sake and the art for reward (money) sake. It has been a core of creating anything—be it music, painting, sculpture, etc.
"Music, on its own, remains a unique art of expression, and its authenticity gives it the value it earns. Thus, the need for good marketing after a great record can never be underestimated.
"Commercial or mainstream sound, which is born from trends and the collaboration of cross-border sounds, demystifies the barriers or walls put up by cultures.
"I will say the word tension is a strong verb to describe this conversation, as there is no tension in any form at all; rather, the investor’s reward is being prioritised in the conversation. As a result of this, there can be more intentionality in sound creation, with a keen interest in profit-making, as the investor’s reward is key in marketing."
