What to know about Coachella

Coachella is an annual music and arts festival held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, in the Coachella Valley in the Colorado Desert.

The festival, which was co-founded by Paul Tollett and Rick Van Santen, began in 1999.

It is famous for showcasing well-established music stars across different genres, with the likes of Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Frank Ocean, Bad Bunny, The Weeknd, Kanye West, Eminem, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg, among others, having performed at the iconic stage in the past.

In 2026, Davido will also make his debut, further highlighting the growing impact of Afrobeats globally.

Aside from Davido, Legit.ng lists popular Nigerian singers who have performed at Coachella:

Seun Kuti and The Egypt 80 (2012, 2020, & 2025)

Seun Kuti, the son of the late Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, is the only Nigerian to perform at Coachella three times. He performed in 2012, 2020, and 2025.

Seun is the first Nigerian to perform at Coachella, having performed at the festival in 2012. He now holds the record for the most Coachella performances by a Nigerian singer.

Burna Boy in 2019 and 2023

The African Giant took the stage at Coachella for the first time in 2019. However, at that time, he had no Grammy Award or nominations to his name.

He returned to the iconic stage in 2023 after releasing three albums, one of which won a Grammy and another that was nominated for several awards.

Mr Eazi at Coachella in 2019

Tosin Ajibade, aka Mr Eazi, made his debut at Coachella alongside Burna Boy in April 2019.

One of the highlights from Mr Eazi's performance was him leading the crowd in a chant of his popular catchphrase “zagadat.”
