The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially released the full list of subjects in the newly introduced school curriculum, set to take effect from the 2025/2026 academic session.

The announcement was amplified on Wednesday when Dada Olusegun, Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, shared the curriculum outline via his X account.

Olusegun posted an image said to contain the subject breakdown for both Junior Secondary School (JSS) and Senior Secondary School (SSS), describing it as part of the new curriculum that will commence in September 2025.

Digital Literacy and Entrepreneurship Introduced at Junior Level

The revised curriculum places strong emphasis on digital literacy and entrepreneurship from the early stages of secondary education. At the JSS level, students will be introduced to basic coding using Python and Scratch, internet research skills, and robotics through beginner kits.

Entrepreneurship concepts are also embedded within social studies, aiming to foster economic awareness and innovation among young learners.

Programming, Artificial Intelligence and Global Languages in Senior Secondary

Senior Secondary students will encounter a more advanced suite of subjects, including programming languages such as Python and JavaScript, artificial intelligence, data science, and cybersecurity. The curriculum also encourages fluency in international languages, with French, Arabic, and optionally Chinese offered alongside advanced mother tongue literature.

Junior Secondary School (JSS 1–3)

• Mathematics and Measurement: Covers numbers, fractions, geometry, algebra, statistics, and units of measurement

• English Language: Includes essay writing, grammar, comprehension, vocabulary, and oral communication

• Integrated Science: Combines physics, chemistry, biology, earth science, and lab safety

• Digital Literacy and Coding: Introduces Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet research, Python basics, Scratch, and robotics

• Social Studies: Focuses on Nigerian and African history, civics, geography, and entrepreneurship basics

• Languages: Advanced mother tongue and conversational fluency in French or Arabic

• Creative Arts: Covers drawing, painting, crafts, drama, film basics, and music

• Physical and Health Education: Includes sports, nutrition, reproductive health, and drug abuse awareness

Senior Secondary School (SSS 1–3)

• Mathematics and Advanced Applications: Features algebra, trigonometry, calculus, statistics, and financial maths

• English and Communication: Covers academic writing, literary analysis, public speaking, journalism, and fact-checking

FG unveils new curriculum for primary and secondary schools

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled a revised curriculum structure for basic, senior secondary, and technical education, aimed at equipping learners with the skills and knowledge required to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.

Nigerian school curriculum review targets future-ready learners In a statement released on Sunday and signed by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Education, officials confirmed that the curriculum overhaul had been completed following a comprehensive review process.
