Mariya is Marta Kostyuk’s oldest sister. She is a former collegiate athlete. Mariya joined Chicago State University and later Southeast Missouri State University, where she was on the tennis team. In the 2016-17 NCAA season, she was honoured as the Western Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week.
