Oba Ogunwusi had been moved into seclusion at a shrine known as Ilofi in Ile-Ife, Osun state, where he will stay for the next 21 days.

During his stay in seclusion, which is a part of preparations towards his coronation, the Ooni-deisgnate will go through initiation processes into different cults.

According to Nigerian Tribune, the monarch must worship Obatala for five days before the conclusion of the seclusion rites.

However it has not been established if the five days will be between the 21 days he is expected to spend in Ilofi, or after, as only members of Isoro Cult members could determine that.

The new Ooni of Ife would go to Obatala shrine to perform the five days rites which would end with the celebration of the Ekuru festival.

Olufon of Ifon-Osun, Oba Adekunle Abdul Mahroof Magbagbeola, Olumoyero 11, confirmed that the rites must not end without performing sacrificial worship of Obatala god, ThisDay reports.

He said: "Obatala rite remains a significant one as other ones also could not be derelicted. Without the rite, the traditional rite on Ooni designate is incomplete."

During the on-going seclusion rites in the forest, the monarch is expected to meet a spirit, who is an old woman. She will deliver to the new Ooni the power left by Oduduwa. According to tradition, ‘the old woman will give him all the power over the Yoruba race. Then after all these, he will be installed as the Ooni.”

Meanwhile, a human rights group known as the Centre for Human Eights and Social Justice (CHRSJ) has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to prosecute the new Ooni of Ife, based on the allegations of forgery.

Adeniyi Sulaiman, the chairman of the group, wrote a letter to the chairman of the EFCC on Monday, November 2.

In a letter, a copy of which was sent to President Muhammadu Buhari, the CHRSJ noted that the allegations were weighty and called for immediate prosecution.
