Army Sets Up Special Mobile Force In Abuja

The Nigerian Army on Tuesday, set up a mobile Standby Force in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, with the intention of stopping the radical Islamist sect from gaining entrance into the metropolis. 

A top ranking officer who pleaded anonymity while disclosing this to newsmen, assured that the army has taken charge of the security situation in the FCT.

He said the mobile standby force which is on red alert is prepared to be deployed at anytime to any security situation within the FCT and its environs, adding that the army has also created another special security operation codenamed, "Operation Restore Peace and Security in the Federal Capital Territory" which is aimed at securing the whole FCT.  

According to him, soldiers have been deployed in all the flash points within Abuja and its environs to monitor activities of Boko Haram. 

The officer gave the locations of the flash point as; Jabi motor park, Gwagwa, Gwagwalada, Abaji, Kuje, Marataba, Nyanya, Kugbo, Karmo, Zuba, Apo, Mpape, Suleja and Deidei among others.

Aside setting up military checkpoints in all the entry and exit points of the FCT, there are also other checkpoints at Kuje, Airport Road, Gwagwalada, Suleja, Karmo, Nyanya/Karu Road, Karu, Gidan Mango, Karshi, Masaka and up to Keffi.

An undisclosed army source said that intelligence report showed that insurgents were planning to use other routes to penetrate the FCT, because they know that all the accessible roads are being manned by soldiers.

He said besides the military checkpoints set up in vulnerable areas, there are also search areas where the soldiers conduct stop and search on suspecting vehicles and their occupants with the use of sniffer dogs as well as bomb detection equipment.
