Breaking: Senate Shifts Meeting With Service Chiefs, IGP to Thursday

- The meeting between Senate and service chiefs will not be held as scheduled

- According to Senate president Lawan, the meeting will now hold on Thursday, May 6

- This is as a result of the ongoing National Security Council meeting

The proposed meeting with service chiefs has been postponed by the Senate. The director-general of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Inspector General of Police were expected to grace the important meeting.

According to Senate President Ahmad Lawan who disclosed this at plenary on Tuesday, May 4, the meeting has been moved to Thursday, The Nation reports.

He said the reason for shifting the meeting is as a result of the National Security Council meeting which may extend till Wednesday, Daily Trust added.

The Senate president said:

“The briefing will be very crucial, for us to be properly informed and properly guided. The only item on the Order Paper on Thursday will be the briefing.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that President Muhammadu Buhari approved the establishment of a National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons.

A statement from the presidency on Monday, May 3, noted that the centre would be domiciled in the Office of the National Security Adviser.

Legit.ng gathers that the new centre replaced the defunct Presidential Committee on Small Arms and Light Weapons. It will serve as the institutional mechanism for policy guidance, research and monitoring of all aspects of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, amid the incessant kidnappings and killings in Nigeria, President Buhari has stated that his government would not relent until it puts an end to the insecurity troubling the country.

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno, stated this via a statement after a security council meeting convened by the president in Aso Rock.

Legit.ng gathered that he quoted the president to have said he is confident the security agencies would restore the country’s glory.
