- Karim Benzema could be considered back into the France national team after Arsene Wenger's plea
- The 33-year-old has been exiled from the squad in the past six years due to a scandal with teammate Mathieu Valbuena
- Benzema has been in a consistent form for Real Madrid since he joined the club back in 2009 from Lyon
The Real Madrid star has been exiled from Leu Bleus since 2015 following the scandal involving Benzema and former teammate Mathieu Valbuena.
Wenger is now appealing for the in-form striker to be called back into the Didier Deschamps squad ahead of the European championships slated for 2020.
The ex-Gunners handler claimed that the player should not be judged by his past sins but for his current club form for Los Blancos.
Benzema was voted best player in La Liga last season and helped the club win the league title in the season. The Spanish giants are currently in the semi-finals of the Champions League and are also eyeing the league title
Wenger has insisted that the former Lyon star should be allowed to play at Euro 2020 as his exile is for non-footballing reasons.
Wenger told EFE:
"The non-call up of Benzema is not dependent on the quality of the player.
"For me, Benzema deserves 100 per cent to be called up for the European Championship... He could play for any national team.
"It is because of an extra and non-sport problem that he is not playing.
"He has been playing for Real Madrid for more than ten years as a starter, and his record is excellent."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Karim Benzema equalized for Real Madrid during their Champions League first leg semi-final clash against Chelsea but Spanish media and fans believe there was a foul in the build-up, Daily Mail.
They claim Carlos Casemiro's fouled Cesar Azpilicueta in his initial header where he climbed above the Blues captain before it got to Eder Militao and finally Benzema.
A referee expert, Juan Andujar, told a Madrid based news media outlet Radio Marca:
"Casemiro commits a foul on [Cesar] Azpilicueta before [Eder] Militao heads to [Karim] Benzema, who scores."
Legit.ng had earlier reported that Dani Carvajal has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury as Real Madrid's La Liga and Champions League challenges have been put in doubt, Daily Mail.
The Spanish right-back will not be available for the remaining five league matches of the season and the second leg against Chelsea in the Champions League.
Los Blancos confirmed the injury in training while Onda Cero journalist Edu Pidal has claimed that the right-back will miss the rest of the campaign.
