The 29-year-old returned to the squad in their weekend's draw with Real Betis and played 77 minutes in the stalemate with the Blues.

Nacho Fernandez and Odriozola are expected to fill in the void in place of Carvajal for the final few weeks of the season.

However, defenders Sergio Ramos and Ferland Mendy will return to the squad, first against Osasuna and the crucial Champions League cracker at Stamford Bridge.

Real Madrid now have the advantage to retain La Liga title after Barcelona slumped to a 2-1 defeat to Granada.

Zinedine Zidane's men need to win all their five matches to lift the league title irrespective of Atletico Madrid and Barca's result in the other games.
