Dino Melaye, former president Jonathan meet amid 2023 presidency rumours (photo)

Amid the 2023 presidency speculations, Dino Melaye, a former senator, has met with former president Goodluck Jonathan.

Melaye, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), shared a photo of himself with the former president via a tweet he posted on Saturday, December 12.

Though the former lawmaker did not give out any detail regarding his meeting with Jonathan, it appears from the picture that the duo met at a social function.

There have been rising speculations that some politicians on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are considering Jonathan as President Muhammadu Buhari's successor in 2023.

The development gained prominence following the recent visit of some APC governors to the former president.

Similarly, the PDP chairman, Uche Secondus, recently said Jonathan is free to vie for the party's ticket in 2023.

Speaking on whether the former president would be brought to run on the platform of the party, Secondus said a committee has been set up to review the party's performance in the 2019 general elections.

He said once the committee submits its report, those interested in the presidency including the ex-president would be at liberty to throw their hats in the ring.

Nigerians react to Melaye's meeting with Jonathan

Reacting to the photo posted by Senator Melaye, a Twitter user, fakoo (@fakooluwafemi), said:

"My resentments towards Goodluck Jonathan is very simple... He didn't manage political power well enough which gave birth an administration without direction.
"In all these, Jonathan has his fault too. However, he is not power hungry leader"

Echoing the 2023 presidency rumour, another Twitter user, M.s Mainasara (@msmainasara17), said:

"We missed ur administration sir. Pls take my greeting to the president. And tell him the situation we re in Nigeria. We need him to come back again."

In his own reaction, Chima (@holysonchima) said he wished to see Senator Melaye apologise to Jonathan.

Chima was probably speaking about Melaye's criticism of the Jonathan administration when he was in the APC.

He tweeted:

"I really wish to see a copy of your apology to this great Leader of our time.
"Your being brave to speak out against this present administration after you realize your mistakes show you good. And I appreciate that. But then many have been mislead and the bad deed is unforgettable"

Similarly, vanrobbin1 (@vanrobbin11) tweeted:

Another Twitter user, Jaja Krishna Adolf, @Adolfbaba, shared a picture of Melaye wearing a shirt with words criticising Jonathan.

Meanwhile, Jonathan has spoken on the speculations regarding his possibility of contesting the 2023 presidential election.

The former president said it is too early to talk about his interest in the 2023 elections.

He made this known to newsmen on Friday, December 4, after attending an event organised by the Commonwealth Community Choir in Abuja.
