- Diri said that the judiciary is truly the last hope of the average Nigerian

- The senator went on to say that with this development, the state has been healed and restored

One of the first things Duoye Diri, the new governor-elect of Bayelsa, said after receiving his certificate of return is that God has restored and healed the state.

Diri made this statement in Abuja on Friday, February 14, after he was declared the rightful winner of the gubernatorial election in the state.

He said that he will never forget the judiciary since it has once again proven itself as the last hope of the common man.

Diri stated: “I will never forget the judiciary, it is the last hope of the common man. With what happened, God has healed our state Bayelsa. Within this time, God has taken us through a journey of reconciliation and forgiveness.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that in anticipation of the issuance of the certificate of return, members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and supporters of Diri, had stormed the Abuja office of INEC.

Members of the PDP who were in front of the office were allowed into the building for a closed-door meeting with top officials and commissioners of INEC.

However, Diri, the PDP candidate of the last Bayelsa governorship election, was prevented by security officers from entering the office. He was later asked by an official of INEC to stay away from the building until after the meeting.

In another post, Legit.ng reported that INEC had declared Diri as the governor-elect of Bayelsa. The chairman of the INEC, Mahmood Yakubu and some national commissioners were in a closed-door meeting at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
