Breaking: PDP chieftain dumps party, gives reasons

Alhaji Fatai Akinbade who served as secretary to the state government during the administration of Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Punch reports that Akinbade who participated during the PDP primary election and came third in the exercise dumped the party on Wednesday, July 25.

He said he was leaving the party over what he perceived as unwelcomed treatment. The PDP chieftain said he was however open to return if the party can put in place a transparent process.

Read his letter below:

I wish to notify you of my formal disengagement from the Peoples Democratic Party as a member as from today.

“I made this somewhat reluctant decision after due consultations with my political associates, leaders, admirers and friends within and outside the state.

“In particular, I came to this painful junction having realised that the leadership of the party either do not want me or is threatened by my presence in the party.

“This fears became more produced especially with the events that dovetailed into the recently concluded primary election of the party.

“Consequently, as an ever forward working individual, I am withdrawing my membership of the party without harbouring animosity against anyone, and will always welcome and participate in electoral contest that leave the process open and transparent.”

Meanwhile, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has officially announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor made the announcement at the Government House, Makurdi, hours after some Benue youths blocked his convoy, preventing him from visiting APC national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, in Abuja.

There have been insinuations that the governor will quit the ruling party after he announced on Monday, July 16, that he has been sent out of the APC, and is currently exploring a new option to actualise his future ambition.
