Lawmaker, 4,556 APC members dump party for PDP

A House of Representatives member representing Kagarko/Kachia Federal Constituency, Hon. Jagaba Adams Jagaba, has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The ceremony took place on Monday, May 7 in Zonkwa, Zangon Kataf Local Area Government area of Kaduna state. 4,556 other members joined the lawmaker in defecting to the PDP.

Senator Ahmed Makarfi, a former PDP chairman who was at the event described it as significant and urged the new members to join hands to help achieve the party’s objective.

He said: "We must ensure that we protect our votes and guard against any form of rigging."

Dr. Hassan Hyet who is the state chairman of the PDP accused the APC of blame game saying the PDP recorded huge strides in 16 years.

Senator Umar Ibrahim Tsauri who is the PDP national secretary expressed optimism that the party was on track.

Hon. Jagaba who spoke on behalf of the new members said the PDP has learnt from is past mistakes and assured that the new members would help safeguard its interest.

As the 2019 general election draws near, politicians are defecting from one party to the other. Aminu Yusuf who is the deputy chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Niger state announced that he is leaving the party for the All Progressives Congress.

Yusuf dumped the PDP on Friday, February 9.

His action came just a few weeks after Liman Iya who is the minority whip of the state House of Assembly dumped the PDP at the floor of the House.
