BREAKING: Several People Killed as Train Carrying 100 Passengers Derails

Biberach, Germany - Several people have been killed after a train carrying 100 passengers derailed from the tracks in the Biberach district in Germany.

The train derailed in the Biberach district of Baden-Württemberg, a state in southwest Germany bordering France and Switzerland, on Sunday, July 27, 2025.

As reported by the Mirror, authorities said around 100 passengers were on the train, describing it as a "mass casualty incident."

Preliminary reports say the crash resulted in numerous injuries. It was not immediately clear how many people were injured.

Federal and local police said the cause of the crash near Riedlingen, roughly 158km (98 miles) west of Munich, remains under investigation.

According to Express Tribune, German daily Bild said the passenger train was travelling from the German town of Sigmaringen to the city of Ulm when at least two train carriages derailed in a wooded area.

A police spokesperson told AFP that:

“The accident occurred at around 6:10 pm (1710 GMT) near the town of Riedlingen in Baden-Wuerttemberg state.”

All train passengers evacuated derailment.

Baden-Württemberg's Interior Minister Thomas Strobl said all passengers have been evacuated from the carriages.

The minister, however, said the carriages must be raised to ensure there is no one under the train.

"Currently, we have three deaths. In addition, several dozen were injured, including several seriously.

"All passengers have been evacuated from the carriages. But now carriages must be raised to ensure that no one is lying under the train."

Reacting to the train accident, Baden-Württemberg's Minister-President Winfried Kretschmann said he is "shocked" by the accident.

"I am shocked by this tragic news. My deepest condolences go out to the families of the victims."

Fifteen hurt as two Swiss trains derail in storm

In a similar incident, fifteen people were injured, including at least one seriously hurt, in two separate train derailments that happened in quick succession in stormy wind in northwestern Switzerland, police said.

The incidents, on regional passenger rail lines, took place about 30 kilometres apart, north of the Swiss capital, Bern.

Three people were injured in the first, including the driver, and 12 were injured in the second, with wind speeds of 136 kilometres per hour recorded nearby.

Warri-Itakpe train derailment

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the Warri-Itakpe train broke down mid-journey in a remote forest in Kogi State on April 10, leaving passengers stranded for hours.

With no immediate help in sight, some passengers, including the elderly, embarked on a grueling three-hour trek through the forest to seek help.

Survivors described the ordeal as terrifying and called on the government to urgently improve rail infrastructure and ensure passenger safety.
