Ekong sends message to Nigerians

Nigerian national team captain Troost-Ekong has rallied the country to get behind the team as they face matches that will decide their World Cup fate.

The captain confirmed that all players have reported to camp and they had a full house training on Wednesday evening at his home state stadium.

“The boys are very focused, and we’re looking forward to the game on Saturday,” he said as quoted by Soccernet.

He appreciated Nigerians for their support and urged them to keep supporting the team as they need more of it at this crucial stage of the qualifiers.

“I want to thank the fans for their support, and I ask them to continue encouraging us—be there in the stadium on Saturday, keep praying for us, and rally with everyone else in Nigeria,” he added.

“It’s going to be an important set of games for us, starting on Saturday,” he said.
“We know the gravity of this game, and we’ll remain focused on our preparation, because that’s what will give us confidence for the match.”

Ekong will be in the spotlight in the upcoming matches after he was faulted for a lapse in defence, which allowed Zimbabwe to equalise in March and cost Nigeria victory.

He took responsibility for the incident and hopes the same doesn't repeat itself in high-stakes matches with zero margin for errors against Rwanda and South Africa.
