Nigerian football legend Sunday Oliseh has hit out at Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim over the treatment of striker Benjamin Sesko.

Sesko started off the bench again as Manchester United rallied to beat newly-promoted Burnley 3-2 at Old Trafford thanks to Bruno Fernandes' late penalty.

The striker, who joined United from RB Leipzig in a deal worth €85 million, has started the matches against Arsenal, Fulham and now Burnley on the bench.

Amorim prefers to have former Chelsea star Mason Mount over him in attack, and his only start was in the penalty shootout loss against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup.

Oliseh calls out Ruben Amorim

Fellow summer signing Matheus Cunha left the pitch with what appeared to be a hamstring injury in the 31st minute, and Amorim threw on Joshua Zirkzee over Sesko.

This has prompted a reaction from Super Eagles legend Sunday Oliseh, who made a post on his X page, questioning why the striker isn't getting minutes.

“Unless Sesko has an underlying condition, I am still short of words why such an expensive investment by Manchester United starts the game on the bench! Something just ain't right,” he wrote.

Fans reacted diversely to the post, with some defending Amorim's choice as the manager, while others claimed he is digging his own grave.

“You when you were a coach have your reasons to play certain players. You have more information than the fans, you see his medical reports, you know what he is capable of, what he can do or not.Do you want him on the pitch with the same performance as he did with Grimsby?”

“Amorim will be the architect of his downfall. How can you be starting Sesko from the bench & playing with a false 9? Look at the attempts he had with his head when he came on. Why can't you start with him & let those crosses be coming from both left & right sides of the field.”

“He's not the first striker that has come from Leipzig that have failed to light up the epl, Timo Werner, Nkunku and they all came with huge and we know how it turned out, so I urge patience.”

Ruben Amorim defended his decision during the post-match conference, claiming he had to protect the player after he played 90 minutes against Grimsby.

“He finished that [Grimsby] game with cramps, he was really in the limit, that's why we protected Ben from the penalties,” he said as quoted by NBC Sports.

Man Utd line up Amorim's replacement

Legit.ng previously reported that Manchester United lined up Ruben Amorim’s replacement in case the Portuguese manager is sacked after losing to Grimsby.

The Red Devils reportedly have Crystal Palace’s manager, Oliver Glasner, in their sights in case their current boss fails to turn a poor start to the season around.
