- Paul Onuachu has been impressive this season for Genk in the League
- John Fashanu has named him as the best Nigerian striker at the moment
- The Super Eagles star has scored 25 goals so far this term in Belgium
Former professional footballer John Fashanu has described Genk striker Paul Onuachu as the best Nigerian striker at the moment considering his brilliant form.
So far this season in the Belgian League, Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu has created two assists and scored 25 goals which is an incredible record.
His scintillating performances helped the Blue and White to their current third place in the Belgian First Division A after accruing 46 points from 29 games.
According to the report on GOAL citing Punch, John Fashanu who won the FA Cup in 1988 hailed Paul Onuachu for his superb form in getting the goals this term.
“He is the best Nigerian striker right now, the record speaks for itself.
“His record states he is the best Nigerian striker for now. Something else might happen tomorrow, but for now, he is certainly the best.”
On March 26, 2019, Onuachu scored his first goal for Nigeria in a friendly match against Egypt.
But the former Manchester United star made it clear that he is still thinking about the situation and will soon come out with his position on the development.
The issues actually started after the Super Eagles crashed out of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia in which Odion Ighalo failed to impress at the tournament.
Ighalo however shined at the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt where he finished as the highest goalscorer for the Super Eagles who came third in the championship.
And after the 2019 African Cup of Nations, Odion Ighalo announced his retirement from the national team claiming that he made the decision due to personal reasons.
According to the report, Odion Ighalo explained that he is happy for the chance to have played for the Super Eagles stressing that he is still in touch with Gernot Rohr.
