Thomas Tuchel under fire for backing match officials during racism row with Basaksehir

A heated row ensued during Paris Saint Germain’s Champions League tie against Istanbul Basaksehir and fans have blasted Thomas Tuchel for appearing to be in support of the match officials.

The match was stopped 14th minute when Pierre Webo, the Istanbul assistant manager was shown a red card after a public spat with the Romania’s Sebastian Coltescu who was the match fourth official.

Webo claimed the official used a racist term against him and the argument went haywire as substitute Demba Ba was visibly furious in his remarks.

The absence of fans in the stadium made all on-pitch mics pick up the the voices as Ba was seen in a footage angrily telling the fourth official he called Webo a ‘black guy'.

Furious Demba Ba charged:

"You never say, 'This white guy.' Why when you mention a black guy, you have to say, 'this black guy.'"

In a statement, Uefa said:

"Following an alleged incident involving the fourth official, the match was temporarily suspended. Uefa will thoroughly investigate the matter and further communication will be made in due course."

In the other group game, two quick second-half goals from Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba were not enough to rescue Manchester United from crashing out of the UEFA Champions League championship.

The Red Devils suffered a 3-2 defeat at the Red Bull Arena in spite of their efforts in turning the results around but it appeared they woke up too late in the encounter.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men will now proceed to the Europa League for the comtinuation of their European competition appearance.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice in Juventus' Champions League triumph over Barcelona at Camp Nou on Tuesday night, December 8.

The victory propelled the Italian club to the summit of the Group G table with 15 points - the same points as the Catalans. Both of them had sealed their progress to the next round heading to the game.

And the Turin based club was able to tick both boxes as they ended up at the top of the table and also left the Nou Camp scoring three un-replied goals, with Ronaldo on the score sheet twice.
