Ibadan, Oyo state - The 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, paid a courtesy visit to the Olubadan designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, at his private residence in Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo state.

The former Anambra state governor visited Ladoja’s residence on Sunday, September 14, 2025.

As reported by The Punch, Obi said his visit to Ibadan to see Ladoja was about Nigeria.

Obi said that Ibadanland had always played a pivotal role in both the socio-economic and political history of Nigeria.

He acknowledged the contributions of the indigenes of Ibadanland, both at home and diaspora, to the growth of the country.

He was accompanied by a Labour Party (LP) chieftain and prominent indigenes of Igboland to Ladoja's residence.

“My visit is to congratulate him as the next 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland. My visit is about Nigeria, about selfless leadership, leadership that is committed to turning our society around.
“Ladoja will bring his wealth of experience to bear as Olubadan.”

Responding to Obi’s visit to Ibadan to congratulate him, Ladoja said:

“I just see my appointment as Olubadan as another opportunity for service. Many people erroneously believe that the throne is for glamour.
“The time of glamour is gone; in contemporary times, it is about service, what you have on the table for the people in society.”

Recall that former president Goodluck Jonathan met with Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 election.

Obi disclosed that the meeting was held behind closed doors, while describing the former president as his leader, brother and statesman.

This came at a time the PDP said it was considering Obi or Jonathan for its presidential ticket and reiterated its readiness to sack President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
