INEC Takes Final Decision on Recognising David Mark-led ADC Ahead of 2027 Election
- INEC officially recognised the new leadership of the opposition ADC, led by former Senate president David Mark, as national chairman

FCT, Abuja - Ahead of the 2027 election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recognised Senator David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola as the national chairman and national secretary, respectively, of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

As reported by Nigerian Tribune, INEC equally recognised other interim national officers of the opposition party.
Vanguard also noted the update.
Other principal officers now officially recognised by the electoral body are a former Edo governor, Oserheimen Osunbor, as national legal adviser; Ibrahim Mani as national treasurer, and Akibu Dalhatu as national financial secretary.

Also part of the ADC coalition are former vice president Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party (LP) chieftain Peter Obi, a former governor of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai; and a former Rivers state governor, Rotimi Amaechi, who were present at the unveiling in July.
Others are a former member of the national assembly, Senator Dino Melaye; a former minister of youth and sports, Solomon Dalung; Dele Momodu, Senator Gabriel Suswam; Senator Ireti Kingibe of the LP, a former deputy speaker of the house of representatives, Emeka Ihedioha; and a former chief of air staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (retd).
ADC reacts to INEC's decision
Reacting to INEC's recognition of the Mark-led ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party's national spokesperson, expressed his absolute delight.
He wrote on his verified X (formerly Twitter) page on Wednesday, September 10:
"Game on!"

"We congratulate ADC members and all lovers of democracy in Nigeria.
"We commend @INECNigeria and its chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, for standing on the right side of history and for standing up for the cause of multi-party democracy.

ADC coalition gets key backing
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that a regional political support group, the South East Democratic Forum (SEDEF), declared support for the ADC coalition movement.
The regional political group praised ADC leaders for what it described as effective organisation and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement signed by its national president, Chris Ogbu, and endorsed by national publicity secretary, Charles Otu, SEDEF commended the coalition leaders for what it called “foresight in embracing the new national political rhythm.”
