Wike Prophesies Amaechi's Fate in ADC, Presidential Ambition

  • Nyesom Wike, the FCT minister, has commented on the mission of former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, to sack President Bola Tinubu
  • Wike, in an interview on Tuesday, August 19, insisted that Nigerians would reject Amaechi in the next general election
  • The FCT minister also expressed confidence that the former governor of Rivers would not get the presidential ticket of the coalition adopted party, ADC

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has dismissed the chances of Rotimi Amaechi, the former Minister of Transportation, in the 2027 presidential election, saying the ambition is “dead on arrival.”

The minister made the dismissal while speaking on Channels Television's interview on Tuesday night, August 19, saying that the former minister would be rejected by Nigerians and that he would not secure the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket.

Wike replies Amaechi on plan to sack Tinubu

Wike also responded to the claim of Amaechi that he knew the weaknesses of President Bola Tinubu and how to defeat him in the next general election, but the FCT Minister expressed wonder why Amaechi failed to defeat Tinubu in the presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The FCT minister explained that the record of Amaechi in governance did not make him qualify to be taken seriously by Nigerians. He also explained that the former governor did not respect the rule of law when he was at the helms of affairs in Rivers.

Recall that Amaechi and Wike were both former governors of Rivers state, and have remained political enemies since the former dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the then-growing coalition party, All Progressives Congress (APC).

Their rivalries have split the politics of Rivers, with Wike appearing to have the upper hand in the polity. This is because he not only defeated Amaechi's candidate when he was Rivers governor, he was also able to install a successor in the oil-rich state.

When did Amaechi and Wike's rivalry start?

Since 2015, the political gladiators have been in a war of words and have remained political enemies of each other when Wike defeated the former governor in the 2015 general election and governed the state for eight years

The supremacy battle between the two former governors of Rivers has become a recurring incident in the media. While Amaechi has claimed he had the opportunity to fire Wike when the FCT minister was his chief of staff as governor of Rivers, Wike claimed he was instrumental in the emergence of Amaechi as the governor.
