Ekiti State Governor Dissolves Cabinet, Sacks 19 Commissioners

  • In a major cabinet reshuffle, the governor of Ekiti state, Biodun Oyebanji, dismissed 19 commissioners from their positions in his administration

‎‎The secretary to the state government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro, announced the dissolution in a statement issued on Sunday night, August 10.

‎The affected commissioners and special advisers are to hand over to the permanent secretary or the most senior civil servant in their respective MDAs.

‎‎The statement, however, said that;

"The dissolution does not affect the state attorney general and commissioner for justice.
"Also not affected by the dissolution are the Commissioner for Health and Human Services; Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security; Commissioner for Education; Commissioner for Works; Commissioner for Trade, Investment, Industry and Cooperatives; Special Adviser, Special Education and Social Inclusion; and Special Adviser Lands, Survey and e-GIS."

Commissioners not affected by the directive

As reported by The Punch and Leadership, directors general who are members of the State Executive Council are to retain their positions.

"These are the director general office of transformation and service delivery (OTSD); director general SDGs and project monitoring; and director general Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP)."

Borno, Benue govs dissolves cabinet

In a similar development, Legit.ng reported that the governor of Borno state, Babagana Zulum, dissolved his cabinet and sacked two commissioners, announcing their replacements and giving an explanation.

Governor Zulum took this action barely 24 hours after Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue state dissolved the state executive council and directed all commissioners who came on board with him to hand over to others.

Tinubu sacks DG of NCCC, appoints replacement

Similarly, Legit.ng reported that President Bola Tinubu sacked the pioneer director general of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), Dr Nkiruka Madueke.

Dr Madueke, the pioneer head of the council, was appointed by President Tinubu in June 2024 but was replaced by Omotenioye Majekodunmi as the new director general of the NCCC.

“Majekodunmi’s appointment reaffirms the Tinubu administration’s commitment to tackling climate change as both an environmental necessity and a driver of sustainable economic growth, national security, and social inclusion,” the statement added.

Nasarawa gov dissolves cabinet

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Nasarawa governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, dissolved the state's executive council (SEC).
