In order to further beautify the story and hear from the couple how they pulled it off, Legit.ng reached out for comments, and they shed more insight on the process.
The couple decided on a virtual wedding because of logistical challenges and the belief that an in-person ceremony was not compulsory.
The husband explained the situation and reasoning behind their approach:
"I live and work in Lagos."
"My wife moved to Lagos in February, she stays with her uncle at Iyana Ipaja. So, we both reside in Lagos, though my parents reside in Ifo, Ogun State. There has been discussion around having our Nikkah in absentia, that it’s not compulsory for both of us to be there."
"Apparently, it was supposed to be a small thing, the normal ‘idupe iyawo’ in Ilorin; we just added the Nikkah part so we could be Islamically married and live together as a couple. Not much of an inspiration, it was just a thought of doing the necessary thing.”
When asked about seeing their loved ones’ reactions online, he revealed how emotionally overwhelming it was to witness family members celebrating from afar:
“It was really emotional for me, especially the part where the Imam was reciting Khutbah. I shed tears at that point because it’s been a long time coming with my wife."
"The thought that all these people came out of their respective homes, dressed nicely because of me, got me emotional. And again, I’m now a husband to the most beautiful woman in the world.”
He also described the moments that stood out most during the virtual Nikkah, highlighting the coordination and improvisation that made the day memorable.
"We thought we could do the main ceremony in Ilorin, take pictures, and involve family."
"On Wednesday, some elders from our family went to her family house to formally request her hand in marriage, and by Thursday, we got the reply: they accepted. My wife’s aunt suggested, ‘Why don’t I come and join them on Friday?’ so everything could happen together, even though the husband was away and my wife elsewhere."

"Then, it just came to me: I remembered I had a Facebook account I hadn’t used for years. I decided to do a Facebook Live, sending my login to my cousin to help set it up so people who couldn’t be there in person could watch."
"Everything was coordinated last-minute, even down to the clothes and makeup, which we decided on Saturday morning. In the end, everything went smoothly, and it was a huge success. Alhamdulilah, it went viral.”
Finally, he offered guidance for other couples considering a virtual Nikkah, stressing that adherence to Shariah requirements makes the approach completely valid.
"They should do it. The important things required by Shariah for a Nikkah to hold as long as they are present, a virtual Nikkah is a go.”
