"When I thought I married my soulmate, moved to the UK because of him. Two months after moving here, he punched me several times on my face, I thought I was gonna die.
"Names like [expletive], fat, Nigerian scammer became my new name. Heaven knows I am not a nagging woman, I tried my best to make it work. Apologies even if it wasn't my fault..."
She disclosed that she never met his family, despite that he met all her family members.
She further said he continued to insult her and would slap her months later, at a time she grieved over the death of her father.
The lady said she had to move out at that point, and her ex filed for divorce two weeks after she left.

The concluding part of her narration read:
"He met all my family but I never met his family, telling me my hands look like a monkey. I'm too dark, his children are smarter than me and I'm so dumb with no brain, was the new anthem in the house.
"Slapped me again after few months. And I lost my dad during this period, still grieving. I lost myself. Had to move out and he filed for divorce after two weeks of me moving out.
"I made the best decision, I'm more happier and better now. Physical, emotional, psychological, any type of abuse is non negotiable for me. I will never live with an abusive partner.
"34, no kids and divorced. I will build again from the scratch."

"I once read a comment from a white woman who said that white men marrying African women is a red flag because the majority of them are looking for someone to control. I'm not sure how true that statement was, but it caught my attention."

"It's not necessarily racism. It's pure evil, sadistic and he knew how exactly to destroy you... 😢 I'm so sorry you had to experience this, glad you got out. I'm praying for you, find a way to first love yourself and hopefully one day soon you will love someone new again."

"Well, this is the side of your story, we haven't heard of his side of the story. There definitely no smoke without a fire 🔥. Make it make sense to us all a man who loved you and cherish you and even went ahead to come to Africa and married you, take you to his country all of the sudden Turn to hate you in a short period of time really?

"These is definitely something wrong somewhere. you just made yourself the victim and you didn't outline any of your mistakes only his. the fact that I haven't heard his side of the story I wouldn't judge him."

"How could someone call themselves a man if they abuse the one they ”love”? I always fail to understand this. Being a man is about behaving and being respectful, loving and caring of the ones you love. I was hit by my ex-wife several times and not even once thought about raising my hand back. Love is always the answer. Not money, not material things, but true, genuine love is. I wish you all the best - you deserve nothing like the things you have experienced."

How to rebuild after failed marriage - Counselor
A certified family and marriage counselor, Coach Grace Ademola-Oke, has urged individuals recovering from broken marriages to rebuild their self-worth with intentionality.
“Rebuilding self-esteem has to come from intentionality and realizing that failure does not define anyone,” she told Legit.ng. She explained that heartbreak “is a phase that will phase out if people don’t beat themselves up and instead focus on the bright future ahead,” stressing that it is “better early than later or with a worse scenario.”
The counselor advised moving forward by “carrying one’s head high, seeking counseling, becoming financially independent, building a meaningful life and trusting God to bring better opportunities, including a healthier relationship.”
